Sanju Samson is on fire! After years of uncertainty in T20 internationals, the Indian wicketkeeper-batter has finally hit his stride, and former batting coach Sanjay Bangar is all praise for him. Samson’s comeback in 2024 has been nothing short of spectacular, with consistent performances that saw him feature prominently in India’s T20 World Cup-winning squad. But what makes his story even more exciting? His six-hitting ability that’s drawing comparisons with cricket legend Yuvraj Singh.
After years of inconsistency and a spotty international career, Samson found his rhythm last year, especially in the T20Is. He played an instrumental role in India’s series wins against Bangladesh and South Africa, smashing big centuries and solidifying his place in the team. His performance has not only won him fans but has also earned him a crucial spot in the upcoming Champions Trophy.
In a recent interview, Sanjay Bangar shared his admiration for Samson’s progress. He emphasized that Samson has finally received the opportunities he needed to showcase his true potential. “Every batter needs a good run of games to settle in. Sanju has been given that chance, and he’s seized it,” said Bangar, noting that the wicketkeeper-batter’s consistency in recent matches has been key to his success.
The real highlight, however, is Samson’s explosive batting. Bangar drew a striking comparison between Samson and Yuvraj Singh, particularly their ability to hit sixes. According to Bangar, after Yuvraj, Samson is the only player who can consistently clear the ropes with ease. “He’s a natural six-hitter. His batting up the order with the field up allows him to show his full potential, making him a treat to watch,” Bangar said.
With the Champions Trophy just around the corner in February, all eyes are on Samson. He’s expected to make his return in the limited-overs format when India faces England later this month. There’s even talk that he might get a chance to feature in ODIs, especially with regulars like KL Rahul being rested. If he impresses in the series, Samson could well be a key player for India in the upcoming Champions Trophy.
